How much is a confirmation statement?

Last checked: 18 October 2026 · The AI Till, UK

Short answer

Filing a confirmation statement costs £50 online or £110 on paper, according to Companies House's fees list (checked 18 October 2026). The online fee rose from £34 on 1 February 2026. You pay once a year with your first statement in each 12 month period, and further statements in that period are free. The same fees apply to LLPs.

Company confirmation statement£50£110
LLP confirmation statement£50£110
Online fee before 1 February 2026£34

The fee is per year, not per statement: it covers the first statement you file in each 12 month review period. If you file again within that period, for example to update shareholders, there is no extra charge. Companies House fees have no VAT.

What a confirmation statement is

Every UK company and LLP must confirm at least once a year that the information Companies House holds is correct. That includes your registered office, directors, people with significant control, shareholders and SIC codes. It is not your accounts and not a tax return. It does not go to HMRC.

Since the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, it also asks you to confirm that your company's future activities will be lawful and to give a registered email address, which is not shown publicly.

When it is due

Your review period is usually 12 months from the date your company was incorporated, or from your last statement. You then have 14 days after the end of the review period to file. You can find your next due date on your company's page on the Companies House register. You can file early at any time, which starts a new 12 month period.

How to file online

  1. Go to the Companies House service and sign in with your GOV.UK One Login.
  2. Enter your company number. You may need your company authentication code if you have not linked the company to your account.
  3. Check each section: registered office, officers, people with significant control, shareholders and SIC codes. Update anything that has changed.
  4. Confirm the lawful purpose statement and your registered email address.
  5. Pay the £50 fee online, then submit.

If directors or people with significant control need to verify their identity, Companies House will tell you. Identity verification became a requirement in stages from 2025.

Can AI help?

AI cannot file the statement for you, and you should never give a chatbot your Companies House login or authentication code. It can help you prepare:

  • Turn a messy list of share transfers into a clear shareholder table before you file.
  • Explain the difference between people with significant control and directors in plain English.
  • Suggest which SIC codes might fit your business, which you then check against the official list.
  • Create a reminder checklist for the next year.

What happens if you file late

Unlike late accounts, there is no automatic fine for a late confirmation statement. But Companies House can start striking the company off the register, and failing to file is a criminal offence for the company and its directors. If you miss the date, file as soon as you can.

Common mistakes

  • Confusing the confirmation statement with annual accounts, which have their own deadline.
  • Paying an agent a large fee for a simple filing you could do in minutes. Some charge more than the official fee.
  • Clicking through without checking shareholder details, which then sit on the public register.
  • Responding to letters or emails from companies that look official and charge high fees. Companies House only charges £50 online.
