Review request generator
Write a short text or email asking a customer for a Google review, with your review link. It keeps to UK consumer law: no rewards, no discounts and no asking only your happiest customers. It runs in your browser and nothing is stored.
How to use it
- Get your review link from your Google Business Profile ("Ask for reviews").
- Send the request within a day or two of finishing, while the job is fresh.
- Ask every customer the same way. Don't offer anything in return, and don't ask for five stars.
- Reply to every review, good or bad, with the review reply generator.
Worked example
A plumber finishes a bathroom on Friday and texts the customer on Saturday: thanks for choosing us, an honest Google review would help a small business, here's the link. No discount, no "5 stars please", and the same text goes to every customer.
The UK rules behind it
- Fake and incentivised reviews. Since 6 April 2025, UK consumer law bans fake reviews and commissioning or incentivising reviews that are fake or not clearly disclosed; the CMA has published guidance for businesses that publish or ask for reviews (CMA short guide, checked 18 October 2026).
- Keep it honest. Ask for an honest review, not a five-star one, and don't write reviews for customers or post them yourself.

Questions
How do I ask a customer for a Google review?
Thank them, say an honest review helps a small business, and include your review link from your Google Business Profile. Send it within a day or two of finishing.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Since 6 April 2025, UK consumer law bans fake reviews and incentivised reviews that aren't clearly disclosed. The simple, safe rule is to offer nothing in return.
Should I text or email for a review?
Text usually gets a quicker response for trades and local services. Email suits longer jobs where you've been emailing anyway.
Can I ask only happy customers for reviews?
Ask every customer the same way. Only asking the happiest ones gives a misleading picture of your business.
Where do I find my Google review link?
In your Google Business Profile, choose "Ask for reviews" and copy the short link.
