Statutory redundancy pay calculator

Work out an employee's statutory redundancy pay from age, complete years of service and weekly pay. Uses the half / one / one-and-a-half weeks rules, the 20-year cap and the weekly pay cap from 6 April 2026.

How statutory redundancy pay is worked out

You normally qualify if you're an employee with at least 2 years' continuous service. For each complete year of service, capped at 20 years, you get half a week's pay for years under 22, one week's pay for years from 22 to under 41, and one and a half weeks' pay for years at 41 or older (GOV.UK).

The weekly pay cap from 6 April 2026

Weekly pay is your average over the 12 weeks before the redundancy notice. For redundancies on or after 6 April 2026 it is capped at £751, and the maximum statutory redundancy pay is £22,530 (GOV.UK). Earlier redundancies used a lower cap.

Who doesn't get it

You're not entitled if your employer keeps you on, or offers suitable alternative work that you refuse without good reason, or if the dismissal is for misconduct rather than redundancy. Some groups (for example certain crown servants and share fishermen) are excluded (GOV.UK). You have 6 months from the end of the job to claim.

GOV.UK also has an official redundancy pay calculator. Budgeting for staff more widely? Use the cost of employing someone calculator and the SSP calculator.
