Quote follow-up generator

Write a friendly follow-up on a quote you've sent: a first nudge, a second check-in or a final message before the quote expires. It keeps the price and validity date clear and makes it easy for the customer to say no. It runs in your browser and nothing is stored.

How to use it

  1. Send the first follow-up 3 to 5 days after the quote, the second a week or two later, and a final note shortly before it expires.
  2. Make it easy to say no. A clear "no thanks" is better than silence.
  3. Don't invent deadlines or "today only" prices: pressure selling can break consumer law.
  4. If they accept, confirm in writing. For jobs agreed in the customer's home, online or by phone, include the 14-day cancellation notice; the quote wording generator adds it.

Worked example

A kitchen fitter sent a £6,800 quote on Monday 12 October, valid until Thursday 12 November. On Friday he emails a first follow-up offering to talk it through; on 9 November a final note says the quote is valid until the 12th and that a quick reply is fine if they've decided not to go ahead.

The UK rules behind it

  • Contracts agreed away from your premises. If the job is agreed in the customer's home, you must give a 14-day cancellation notice; without it, they can cancel for up to 12 months. Contracts of £42 or less are exempt (GOV.UK: doorstep selling, checked 18 October 2026).
  • Online and phone. For jobs agreed online or by phone, give the cancellation details before the contract is made (GOV.UK: distance selling).
  • Total price. Quotes to consumers should show the total price including VAT and unavoidable charges (CMA price transparency).

Questions

How do I follow up on a quote without being pushy?

Check they received it, offer to answer questions or adjust it, give the validity date and make it easy to say no. Two or three follow-ups is usually enough.

How long after sending a quote should I follow up?

A first follow-up after 3 to 5 days works for most jobs, then a week or two later, then a final note before the quote expires.

Can I say the price goes up after a date?

Only if that's genuinely in your quote. Fake deadlines and pressure selling can break consumer law.

Should I follow up by text or email?

Text gets quicker replies for smaller jobs; email suits bigger quotes where the customer wants something to forward or file.

What if the customer says yes?

Confirm in writing with the price, start date and payment terms. If the job was agreed in their home, online or by phone, include the cancellation notice.
