Student loan repayment calculator
Estimate Plan 2, Plan 5 or postgraduate student loan repayments from annual income for the 2026 to 2027 thresholds: 9% above the plan threshold, or 6% for a postgraduate loan.
Thresholds for 2026 to 2027
You repay a percentage of income above the threshold for your plan. For 2026 to 2027 the yearly thresholds are £29,385 for Plan 2, £25,000 for Plan 5 and £21,000 for a Postgraduate Loan. Plans 1, 2, 4 and 5 repay at 9%; a Postgraduate Loan repays at 6% (GOV.UK, employer guidance).
How repayments are collected
If you're employed, repayments come out of pay when that week's or month's pay is over the period threshold. If you're self-employed or file a Self Assessment return, HMRC works out the yearly amount from your return (GOV.UK).
More than one plan
If you have more than one undergraduate plan, you usually repay 9% above the lowest threshold. If you also have a Postgraduate Loan, you repay 6% above the postgraduate threshold as well as 9% above the lowest undergraduate threshold (GOV.UK). This calculator handles one plan at a time.
