AI receptionist tools for roofers in the UK

Roofers' phones are busiest when the weather is worst. After a storm you get a run of leak and slipped-tile calls on the same day, mostly when you're already on a roof and can't answer. An AI receptionist takes each caller's address, what's happened and whether water is coming in, so you can sort the list from the ground.

Prices were re-checked on each provider's own page; the date is next to each one. Rules and figures from GOV.UK are linked where they're used.

Storm surges and leaks

Have the receptionist ask whether water is coming into the property now, whether it's a flat or pitched roof, and for photos by text if the tool supports it. Mark active leaks as urgent and log everything else for a callback. Per-call pricing can jump in a storm week, so check the overage rate.

Insurance work

Insurers and loss adjusters often call about claims. Get the claim reference, the policyholder's name and the insurer's contact details on the first call, so you don't chase them later.

Re-roofs and scheme membership

For re-roof enquiries, if you're registered with CompetentRoofer or NAPIT, the authorised schemes for replacing roof coverings (GOV.UK), have the receptionist mention it. Customers ask who signs off building regulations.

What to check before you choose

  • Overage charges in busy weeks: compare per-call, per-minute and per-customer pricing.
  • Whether callers can text photos after the call.
  • UK numbers and forwarding from your mobile; several tools are US-based.
  • Whether it can recognise insurer and adjuster callers and take claim details.

A prompt to start with

Paste this into ChatGPT or Claude, or use it as your AI receptionist's instructions, filling in the brackets:

You answer the phone for [business name], a roofer in [area]. Get the caller's name, address and postcode, phone number, the type of roof (pitched or flat) and what's wrong. Ask: is water coming in right now? If yes, mark URGENT and text me. For insurance work, take the claim reference and insurer. Ask them to text photos to [number]. Don't quote prices or dates.

Questions

Can it handle a storm-day rush?

Yes, it can answer several calls at once, which a person can't. Check the overage price per call or minute before a busy season.

What's the cheapest option?

Smith.ai lists a free plan with 25 calls a month, then $3.00 a call. Moneypenny's UK AI Receptionist page says from £49 a month. Powered Now's AI receptionist add-on is from £29 a month. All checked 15 October 2026.

Are these prices in pounds?

Not all. Where a provider only publishes US dollar prices we show dollars, so check the price in pounds at checkout.
