AI quote generator for tradesmen

Fill in the job and get quote wording you can paste into an email, text or job app: price with VAT or the reverse charge, what's included and excluded, deposit, how long the quote is valid and, for jobs agreed in a customer's home, the 14-day cancellation notice. It runs in your browser and nothing is stored. Optional: copy the ChatGPT prompt to polish the tone without changing the numbers.

How to use it

1. Work out the price first with the quote and VAT calculator or how to price a job.
2. Fill in the form, then copy the wording into your email, text or job app.
3. Optional: paste the ChatGPT prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to smooth the tone. Check the numbers again after.
4. For a printed or PDF quote, use the free quote template, and add a price-change clause if materials might move.

Worked example

A plumber quoting £480 to replace a basin and taps, not VAT registered, no deposit, 30 days, agreed in the customer's kitchen. The wording states the fixed price and says no VAT is added, lists three included items and two exclusions, and adds the 14-day cancellation paragraph because the job was agreed at the customer's home. Switch VAT to 20% and the price line becomes £480.00 plus VAT of £96.00, total £576.00.

The UK rules behind the wording

• Cancellation. If you agree a job in the customer's home, you must tell them they can cancel within 14 days; if you don't, they can cancel for up to 12 months (GOV.UK, checked 17 October 2026). The same 14 days apply to jobs agreed by phone or online.
• What you say counts. Things you tell a consumer about the service can become part of the contract (Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 50), and work must be done with reasonable care and skill (section 49). Don't let AI add promises you won't keep.
• Reverse charge. It only applies between VAT-registered businesses in the Construction Industry Scheme, not to homeowners (GOV.UK). Check with the reverse charge checker.

Can ChatGPT write a quote for me?

It can write the wording, but it can't know your prices, and it sometimes changes numbers or adds promises. Work the price out yourself, then ask it to tidy the tone and keep the figures unchanged.

Is a quote legally binding in the UK?

A quote the customer accepts usually becomes a contract at that price. An estimate is a best guess. Say clearly which one you are giving.

Do I need to include a cancellation notice on a quote?

For homeowners, yes, if the job is agreed at their home, by phone or online: they can cancel within 14 days, and if you don't tell them, they can cancel for up to 12 months. Business customers don't get this right.

Should a quote include VAT?

If you're VAT registered, show the VAT. Homeowners should see the total including VAT. Under the domestic reverse charge, you show the VAT rate but the customer accounts for it.
