Is Copilot Vision safe?

What Copilot Vision is

Copilot Vision lets the free Microsoft Copilot app look at your screen in Windows or on a Mac, a web page in Microsoft Edge, or your phone camera, and talk you through what it sees. It answers questions and can highlight parts of the screen, but Microsoft says it will not click, type or scroll for you.

Is it available in the UK?

Yes. Microsoft says Vision is available in all regions where Copilot is supported, which includes the UK, and UK English is supported for text and voice. You must sign in to use it. Microsoft 365 Personal, Family and Premium subscribers get higher Vision limits.

What Microsoft stores

• Not kept: screenshots, camera images, audio and page content from the session.
• Kept: Copilot's responses, for safety monitoring, and a transcript of the conversation in your chat history. You can delete your history.
• Not used for training: Microsoft says Vision data is not used to train its models.

The consumer version is not available to work accounts signed in with Microsoft Entra ID. Microsoft 365 Copilot for work has its own vision feature with different rules.

Practical safety tips

• Close banking, customer records and password managers before you start a session.
• Share a single app rather than your whole desktop when you can.
• Do not use it on screens showing other people's personal data unless your business has approved it. See can I put customer data into ChatGPT?

Can you turn off Copilot Vision?

Yes. It only runs when you start a session, and you can stop it at any time. In Edge, Copilot settings include a switch for letting Copilot see the page you are viewing, so you can turn that off. Businesses can manage Copilot in Edge through policy.

Is Copilot Vision the same as Recall?

No. Recall is a separate opt-in feature on Copilot+ PCs that saves snapshots of your activity on the device. Vision only works on what you share during a live session.

Does Copilot Vision cost money?
