How do I use AI in my small business?

Last checked: 17 October 2026 · The AI Till, UK

Short answer

Start with one job that eats your week (emails, quotes, review replies or missed calls) and use a free tool such as ChatGPT or Gemini to draft the first version. Check every output, keep customer data out of consumer accounts, then only pay when free limits bite.

A simple four-step start

  1. Pick one job (for example quote follow-ups).
  2. Use a free chat plan with a clear prompt: how to write a good ChatGPT prompt.
  3. Protect data: customer data in ChatGPT, do I need an AI policy?.
  4. Measure: if it saves an hour a week, keep it; if you hit limits, check are AI tools free? and ChatGPT UK prices.

Can I use ChatGPT for my business?

Yes, with the caveats above. Prefer Business plans for staff sharing and stronger data controls when you are ready. See is ChatGPT safe for business?.

Do I need lots of tools?

No. One chat tool plus the software you already use (accounts, job app, email) is enough for most sole traders.
