Can I use AI to reply to Google reviews?
Short answer
Yes. Using AI to draft replies to your Google reviews is allowed, and it helps you reply to every review quickly. Read and personalise each reply before posting, and never paste in customers' private details. What's banned is using AI, or anything else, to create fake reviews, offer incentives for reviews, or pressure customers about what to write.
What Google's rules say
Google Maps' content policy bans fake engagement: reviews not based on a real experience, paid or incentivised reviews, reviews posted from multiple accounts by one person, and reviews based on a conflict of interest. Businesses mustn't discourage negative reviews or selectively ask only happy customers. Businesses are allowed to ask for genuine reviews without incentives or telling people what to write.
In the UK, fake reviews are also banned under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
Using AI well for replies
- Reply to good reviews with something specific, not "Thanks for the review!" on repeat.
- For bad reviews: stay calm, don't argue in public, offer to sort it offline, and don't reveal anything private about the customer.
- Keep a short list of facts the AI shouldn't change (your name, how to contact you).

Related questions
Can I get AI to write reviews for my customers to post?
No. A review written for a customer isn't their genuine experience, and it risks breaking Google's policy and UK consumer law.
Should replies say they were written with AI?
There's no rule requiring it. If you've read and edited the reply, it's your reply.
