How can a handyman use AI?
Short answer
A UK handyman can use AI to turn job lists into quick quotes, reply to enquiries, text back missed calls, group jobs by area, reply to reviews and keep receipts organised. A free chat tool and a simple job app cover most of it. Gas, most electrical work and structural changes need qualified trades, whatever AI says.
Where AI helps
- Quotes for small jobs: paste a customer's list ("hang 3 shelves, fix a dripping tap, assemble a wardrobe") and ask for a quote with your hourly or per-job rate.
- Enquiries: reply templates for common questions, minimum charges and call-out fees.
- Missed calls: an auto text-back or AI receptionist; see what is an AI receptionist?
- Planning: group a week of jobs by postcode to cut driving.
- Books: receipt capture in a bookkeeping app. See can AI do my bookkeeping?
Know your limits
Gas work needs a Gas Safe registered engineer. Much electrical work in homes in England falls under Building Regulations Part P. If AI suggests a job you aren't qualified for, pass it on.
