Quotes for kitchens, stairs, doors and windows
Joinery quotes often run to pages of items. Take off your own quantities and work out the price with the quote and VAT calculator, then ask AI to turn your notes into a clear quote: what's included, the timber species and finish, what isn't (plastering, decorating, electrics), and the lead time for made-to-measure items. The AI quote generator adds the 14-day cancellation notice that homeowners must get when a job is agreed at their home. Prompts for bespoke furniture, snagging lists and building control updates: ChatGPT prompts for joiners.

Timber prices and long lead times
Bespoke work can take weeks between quote and order, and timber prices move. A fair price-change clause, limited to named materials, with evidence and a right for homeowners to cancel, protects you without being an unfair term. Build one with the price-change clause generator. When a price does move, AI can write the explanation; the price increase letter prompt is a good start. Take a deposit for made-to-measure items: see payment terms for trades and the stage payment schedule.
Windows, doors and Building Regulations
GOV.UK lists replacing windows and doors among the jobs that can need building regulations approval; the customer doesn't need to get approval themselves if the work is done by someone registered with a competent person scheme (GOV.UK, checked 17 October 2026). AI can write a plain-English note to the customer about certificates, but it can't tell you whether a specific job is notifiable. Check the rules yourself.
Missed calls
Joiners on a mitre saw miss calls. An AI receptionist or a UK answering service can take the job type, postcode, timescale and photos by text. Set-up: AI receptionist for joiners. Costs: AI receptionist cost UK. Record a proper greeting with the voicemail greeting generator.
CIS, invoicing and accounts
If you subcontract to builders, CIS deductions are 20% if you're registered, 30% if not, or 0% with gross payment status, taken from the labour part of your invoice (GOV.UK). Check payments with the CIS calculator and compare apps in invoicing apps for tradesmen. Chase late payers with the payment reminder generator. Job pages: invoicing for joiners, bookkeeping for joiners.
Reviews and social posts
Finished kitchens, staircases and built-in wardrobes photograph well. Ask for a Google review at handover, reply with the review reply generator, and turn each job into a post with the social post generator. Guides: reviews for joiners, social for joiners.
Starter kits for joiners

What AI must not do for joiners
Don't use AI for structural decisions (beams, lintels, joists), staircase design to the regulations, fire doors or anything that needs building control or a competent person scheme. Use manufacturers' instructions, the regulations and your own training. Use AI for wording and admin.

FAQ
What is the best AI tool for joiners?
For most UK joiners: Claude or ChatGPT for detailed quotes and customer emails, a job app such as Fergus, Tradify or YourTradebase, and accounts software with CIS such as QuickBooks if you subcontract.
Can AI help price joinery work?
It can set out your quote clearly, but it doesn't know timber prices, your labour rate or how long a job takes you. Price it yourself, then use AI for the wording.
How do joiners handle timber price rises on quotes?
Add a clear price-change clause limited to named materials, with evidence of the supplier price and, for homeowners, a right to cancel. Our free price-change clause generator writes one.
Do replacement windows and doors need building regulations approval?
They can. GOV.UK lists them among jobs that can need approval, unless done by someone registered with a competent person scheme. Check the rules for each job.
Is there free software for joiners?
ServiceM8's free plan (1 user, 30 jobs a month), Zoho Books' free plan and Smith.ai's 25 free calls a month. Our quote, clause, CIS and reminder tools are free too.
