Booking apps for groomers
Most groomers need a booking link that shows real availability, sends reminders and can take a deposit. Calendly's free plan is enough for a simple diary. Salon booking apps such as Booksy (£40 a month + VAT, all features) and Fresha (Independent $19.95 a month) add deposits, reminders and client records, but they are built mainly for hair and beauty, so use the free trial to check they can record what you need: breed, size, coat type, temperament and how long each groom takes. Deposits and no-shows
A deposit or late-cancellation fee cuts no-shows, but keep it fair. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 lists, as a term that may be unfair, one requiring a consumer who decides not to go ahead to pay a disproportionately high sum in compensation or for services not supplied (Schedule 2, paragraph 5), and an unfair term isn't binding on the consumer (section 62). Write a clear, short policy with the cancellation policy generator and put it on your booking page, confirmation texts and website.
New-client forms and welfare
Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, anyone responsible for an animal, even temporarily, must take reasonable steps to meet its needs, including protection from pain, suffering, injury and disease (section 9 and section 3). A good new-client form asks about health conditions, allergies, past reactions, behaviour and the vet's details. AI can write the form and a kind consent note for badly matted coats; prompts: ChatGPT prompts for dog groomers. Don't paste owners' names, addresses or their dog's health notes into a chatbot.
GOV.UK says all dogs in the UK must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old, and must wear a collar and tag with the owner's name and address in a public place (GOV.UK, checked 15 October 2026).
Do you need a licence?
Councils in England say grooming on its own doesn't currently need an animal activity licence (for example Cumberland Council, checked 17 October 2026). If you also board dogs or run day care, you do: GOV.UK says you need a licence from your council for a dog day care business or dog boarding in your home, even with a small number of animals (GOV.UK: boarding for cats or dogs licence). Check with your own council, and about planning permission if you groom from home.
Missed calls
You can't answer with a wet dog on the table. A booking link in your voicemail, Instagram bio and Google profile handles most enquiries. An AI receptionist can answer the rest, take the breed, the service wanted and preferred days, and text the owner your booking link. Costs: AI receptionist cost UK. Record a greeting with the voicemail greeting generator.
Reviews and posts
Before-and-after photos are a groomer's best advert. Ask the owner first, then turn each groom into a caption with the social post generator, design posts in Canva and schedule them with Buffer. Reply to reviews with the review reply generator. Write your Google profile's description with the Google Business Profile description generator. Marketing texts and emails need consent, apart from the limited soft opt-in for existing customers (ICO).

FAQ
What is the best booking app for dog groomers?
For a simple diary, Calendly's free plan. If you want deposits, reminders and client records, try salon apps such as Booksy (£40 a month + VAT) or Fresha on a free trial and check they record breed, size and coat.
Can dog groomers charge a no-show fee?
Yes, if it's in your booking terms and it's fair. A fee that's disproportionately high compared with your loss may be an unfair term the owner doesn't have to pay.
Do dog groomers need a licence in the UK?
In England, councils say grooming alone doesn't currently need an animal activity licence. Boarding and dog day care do. Check with your council, including about planning if you work from home.
Can AI help a dog grooming business?
Yes, with booking reminders, new-client forms, matted-coat consent notes, price-rise messages, captions and review replies. Keep owners' details and dogs' health notes out of chatbots.
What should a dog grooming consent form include?
The owner's contact and vet details, the dog's health conditions, allergies, behaviour and past reactions, consent for clipping matted coats, and your cancellation policy.
