Which one for which business?
- Lots of calls, manageable email (consultants, agencies, anyone quoting over video): Otter. It is cheaper, and its free plan is enough to see whether the transcripts help.
- Drowning in email, a few meetings a week (owners who answer every enquiry themselves): Fyxer. The drafted replies are the main reason to pay; meeting notes come with it.
- Both: try Fyxer first, since it covers both jobs, and only add Otter if you need its transcript tools. Compare other meeting notetakers in Fireflies vs Fyxer and Fathom vs Fyxer.
Recording calls and client data
Tell people at the start of a call that you are recording and give them a chance to object. Under UK GDPR you need a lawful basis for recording and must tell people how you'll use the recording (ICO: lawful basis). Fyxer says it is GDPR compliant and SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, with UK data storage on its Enterprise plan. Check where each tool stores recordings before using it for client calls.

FAQ
Is Otter or Fyxer better?
They do different main jobs. Otter is a meeting notetaker: transcripts, summaries and search across calls. Fyxer is an email assistant that sorts your inbox and drafts replies in your tone, and also records meetings. If meetings are the problem, start with Otter; if email is, start with Fyxer.
Is Otter cheaper than Fyxer?
Yes. Paying monthly, Otter Pro was $16.99 per user a month and Fyxer Pro $49 per person a month when we checked on 17 October 2026. Billed annually, Fyxer Pro was $37 a month; Otter showed $8.49 a month as an offer for first-time subscribers.
Do Otter and Fyxer have free plans?
Yes. Otter Basic includes 300 transcription minutes a month and three file imports in total. Fyxer Free gives 400 credits a month, about 6 hours 40 minutes of meeting recording or about 20 chat messages, but no drafted replies or inbox sorting.
Can Fyxer replace Otter for meeting notes?
For many small businesses, yes: every Fyxer plan takes meeting notes, and Pro adds video recording and a drafted follow-up email after each meeting. Otter has more transcription controls, such as speaker identification, vocabulary and exports.
Does Fyxer send emails for me?
No. Fyxer says it drafts replies in your inbox and you decide what gets sent. Check every draft before you send it.
Do I have to tell people I am recording a call?
Tell them at the start and give them a chance to object. Fyxer joins video meetings like any other attendee, and the host can remove it. For client calls, check what each tool does with your data before you start.
