How do you use an AI voice generator, and does it cost money?
Short answer
To use an AI voice generator, type or paste your script, pick a voice and language, generate the audio and download it or drop it into your video. Canva has AI Voice built into its editor. ElevenLabs has a free plan, and its Creator plan is £22 a month in the UK App Store (checked 17 October 2026).
How to add an AI voice in Canva
- Open your design.
- Go to Elements, scroll to Audio and select Generate AI Voice, or open the Apps tab and select AI Voice.
- Type your script, choose a language and voice, then select Generate AI voice.
- The track appears on your audio timeline. Move or trim it, then press Present to preview.
Canva says AI usage limits apply. Canva Pro is £12.99 a month in the UK App Store.

ElevenLabs says text to speech uses about 1 credit per character, and its paid plans add a commercial licence and voice cloning.
Tips for a natural voiceover
- Write how you speak: short sentences, contractions, no lists of numbers.
- Spell out awkward words phonetically if the voice mispronounces them.
- Keep under a minute for social posts.
