How do I see if my business appears in Google AI Overviews?
Short answer
Use Google Search Console. Its generative AI performance report, rolled out to all websites on 31 August 2026, shows how often links to your site appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode, broken down by page, country, device and date. No report usually means too few AI impressions so far.
Setting it up
- Verify your website in Google Search Console if you haven't already. It's free.
- Open the Generative AI performance report.
- Switch between the Pages, Countries, Dates and Devices tabs.
- Export the data monthly to track it over time.
Reading the report
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Impressions | How many times a link to your site was shown in an AI Overview or AI Mode answer |
| Pages tab | Which pages Google's AI cites most, credited to the canonical URL |
| Dotted line | Preliminary data that can still change |
The report covers impressions. Clicks still show in the standard Performance report. Search Labs experiments aren't included.
Simple manual checks
Once a month, search the 10 questions customers ask you most, such as "how much does a boiler service cost in Leeds", and note whether an AI Overview appears and whether it cites you. Use a private browser window so your history doesn't skew results.
How to get cited more often
- Answer one question per page, clearly, near the top.
- Show prices, dates and your area. Google's AI favours specific, checkable facts.
- Keep your Google Business Profile complete and your reviews answered (see can AI reply to Google reviews?).
- Write for people first. See does AI-written content rank on Google?

Can I stop Google using my site in AI Overviews?
Search Console has a setting to exclude your site from Search generative AI features. Excluding it removes you from these answers, so think carefully before you do it.
Does the report show which searches triggered the AI Overview?
No. It groups data by page, country, device and date.
Is there a cost?
No. Search Console is free.
