Does Gemini have voice chat like ChatGPT?
Short answer
Yes. Gemini Live is Google's voice chat, similar to ChatGPT's voice mode. You talk, Gemini answers out loud, and you can interrupt it or change topic mid-sentence. It's free in the Gemini mobile app, and you can share your camera or screen so Gemini can see what you're looking at. It isn't available in the Gemini web app.
How to start
- Open the Gemini app on your phone.
- Tap Live at the bottom (or swipe left). On Android you can also say "Hey Google, let's talk".
- Start talking. Tap Mute to pause your mic, or End to switch back to typing in the same chat.
Useful for a small business
- Hands-free on site: talk through a materials list or a customer reply while you work.
- Camera help: point your camera at a part, a label or a fault and ask what it is. Check anything safety-related with the manufacturer or a qualified person.
- Practise a call: rehearse a price increase conversation or a sales pitch.
- Connected apps: add a calendar event or a task by voice.
Privacy
Google says to ask permission before recording or including other people in a Live chat. If you're on a personal account, Gemini may use your chats to improve its services unless you change your activity settings. See does Gemini use my data for training?
