Can I delete my data from ChatGPT?
Short answer
Yes. You can delete single chats or your whole history, and OpenAI says cleared chats are deleted from its systems within 30 days, unless they were already de-identified or must be kept for security or legal reasons. You can also delete your account, or send a privacy request through OpenAI's Privacy Portal or to dsar@openai.com.

Files you've uploaded to your library are separate and need deleting separately.
Deleting doesn't undo training
If model improvement was switched on, earlier chats may already have been used. Deleting stops future use of those chats; turn off model improvement in Data controls too. See does ChatGPT use my data for training?
Your UK GDPR rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask an organisation for a copy of your data or ask it to erase it. Use OpenAI's Privacy Portal or email dsar@openai.com. If you're unhappy with the response, you can complain to the ICO.
For businesses
If staff have pasted customer details into personal accounts, delete those chats and set rules for the future with an AI policy.
