Is Google Gemini free?
Short answer
Yes. Gemini is free with a Google account and includes chat, image generation and editing, Deep Research, Gemini Live voice chat, Canvas and Gems, with usage limits. Paid Google AI plans (Plus, Pro and Ultra) raise the limits, unlock stronger models and add Gemini inside Gmail and Docs. Google showed Pro at $19.99 a month when we checked.

The subscriptions page we read showed US prices; the UK price appears in pounds at checkout. Google says limits refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap. Paid Google AI plans are for personal Google accounts and users aged 18 or over.
Gemini for business accounts
If you use Google Workspace for your business email, Gemini for business is a separate route with business data protection. Google says its Gemini Enterprise editions don't use your prompts or outputs to train its models. A personal Google AI plan doesn't give you that.
Should a small business pay?
The free plan is enough to try drafting emails, summarising PDFs and researching suppliers. Pay for Pro if you live in Gmail and Docs and want Gemini inside them, or keep hitting the limits. Test it against your time saved with the AI tool break-even calculator.
