Does ChatGPT Plus have usage limits?
Short answer
Yes. ChatGPT Plus gives you far more than the free plan, but it isn't unlimited. OpenAI says Plus "may include usage limits such as message caps", and reasoning models, image creation, deep research, uploads and Codex each have their own allowances. When you hit one, ChatGPT shows when it resets and you can switch to another model meanwhile.

OpenAI doesn't publish a fixed number of messages for chat, because usage depends on the model, the length of the conversation and the tools used. For Codex it gives ranges per five-hour period, which vary widely by model.
What to do when you keep hitting limits
- Start a new chat for each task. Long threads use more of your allowance.
- Use the faster everyday model for drafting and save the reasoning models for hard problems.
- If several people in the business share the work, look at ChatGPT Business rather than one shared login.
- If you're a heavy individual user, compare ChatGPT Pro.
