Write a numbered checklist that a new member of staff could follow to [task, e.g. close the shop at night]. One action per line. Add a note on anything that's easy to forget.

Before you use it

• Leave out customer names, addresses and bank details; use placeholders.
• Ask for changes: "shorter", "less formal", "use British spelling".
• Check facts, figures and anything legal before sending.
