Gamma review (UK, 2026): price, credits, free plan and alternatives

This Gamma review is for UK small business owners, tradespeople and sole traders who need the odd presentation, proposal or simple web page and don't want to build every slide by hand. Gamma is an AI tool that turns a prompt, your notes or a document into a presentation, document, one-page website or social post that you can then edit and export. Prices below come from Gamma's pricing page, checked on 18 October 2026. Credits, refunds and data settings come from Gamma's help centre, read on 19 October 2026.

How we wrote this: we haven't used Gamma on a live tender or client pitch, so this is a review of what it offers, what it costs and the catches, based on Gamma's own published pages, not a hands-on test.

Affiliate note: the "Try Gamma" link in the "How to try it" section below is an affiliate link, marked "(affiliate link)". If you take out a paid plan through it, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't change what we say here, including the catches. See how we make money.

The short version

  • Free plan: $0 with 400 starter credits when you sign up. They don't top up each month. You can create up to 10 slides per prompt and export to PowerPoint, PDF, PNG and Google Slides.
  • Plus: $9 per seat a month billed annually ($108 a year), with 1,000 credits a month and no "Made with Gamma" badge.
  • Pro: $18 per seat a month billed annually ($216 a year), with 4,000 credits a month, custom branding, detailed analytics, custom domains and API access.
  • Ultra: $90 per seat a month billed annually, with 20,000 credits a month, for very heavy use.
  • Monthly billing costs more. Gamma says annual billing saves up to 28%.
  • Prices are in US dollars and Gamma says prices are subject to tax depending on your location, so the cost in pounds moves with the exchange rate.

What it costs a UK small business

PlanPrice (billed annually)CreditsSlides per promptBest for
Free$0400 at sign-up, no top-upUp to 10Trying it on one or two decks
Plus$9 per seat a month ($108 a year)1,000 a monthUp to 100One owner making a deck most months
Pro$18 per seat a month ($216 a year)4,000 a monthUp to 100Branded decks, client sites on your own domain
Ultra$90 per seat a month20,000 a monthUp to 100Agencies and very heavy users

Plans are per seat: Gamma's help centre says two people on a plan are billed twice. Paid plan credits refresh monthly, even on annual billing, and unused credits roll over up to double your monthly amount (so up to 2,000 on Plus). Paid users can buy extra credits. Free users can earn 200 credits for each friend who signs up through their referral link, holding up to 2,000 at a time.

Gamma doesn't publish a fixed credit cost per deck. Its help centre says credits are used per slide and per image, and that longer generations and more advanced models use more. For a sole trader, Plus billed annually is $108 a year before any currency or card fees.

Is it worth it? If you make one deck a year, the free credits will probably cover it. If you send presentations or proposals to clients every month, Plus is cheap next to the hours it can save. Our AI tool break-even calculator does the sum.

What a small business can use it for

  • Tender presentation stage: turn your written answers into slides you can edit. Our guide to using ChatGPT for UK tenders covers the written stage first.
  • Proposals and pitch decks for commercial clients, such as a facilities contract or a new supplier.
  • Handover packs for customers: care instructions, warranty details and who to call.
  • A one-page site for a service, an event or an open day, without setting up a full website.
  • Staff inductions and toolbox talks as short slide decks.

What it does well

  • Starts from your own material. You can paste notes, a prompt or a document, or import a PDF or PowerPoint file, and get a first draft to edit.
  • Exports to the formats clients use, including PowerPoint, PDF and Google Slides, even on the free plan.
  • No time-limited trial. Gamma says every new account starts on the Free plan with no time limit and no card needed.
  • Easy to try properly. The free credits are enough to test it on a real deck before you pay.

The catches

  • Free credits run out and don't come back. Once the 400 starter credits are spent, you need referrals or a paid plan.
  • Gamma branding on free work. You need Plus or above to remove the "Made with Gamma" badge, which matters on client-facing decks.
  • Per-seat pricing adds up if several people need their own login.
  • Short refund window. Gamma's refund policy offers refunds only within 3 days of subscribing, only if you ask support, and only if you've used less than a set share of your credits (under 200 credits on Plus and under 600 on Pro). After 3 days there are no refunds except where the law requires one.
  • US dollar pricing, so your bank may add a foreign transaction fee.
  • Check every claim the AI adds to a slide. It can make up figures, accreditations or past jobs. Never send a tender or client deck without reading every slide.

Privacy and AI training

Gamma's help centre says that on individual plans (Free, Plus, Pro and Ultra) your content can be used to train its AI by default, and you can opt out at any time under Settings, then Data Controls. On Business and Enterprise workspaces, content is always excluded from training. Gamma says it doesn't sell personal information and that it is SOC 2 Type II compliant. Those are its claims; we haven't audited them.

Before you put client or tender material into Gamma:

  1. Turn off AI training in Data Controls if you don't want your content used.
  2. Don't paste in personal details you don't need, such as customer names and addresses.
  3. Check whether a tender or client contract limits where you can store their documents.
  4. Mention AI tools in your privacy notice if you use them with customer data.

Our AI policy template for UK small businesses covers what to tell staff.

How to try it without wasting money

  1. Sign up on the free plan and pick one real job, such as your next proposal or a handover pack.
  2. Paste in your own notes rather than a one-line prompt, so the draft starts from your facts.
  3. Turn off AI training in Data Controls if the content is sensitive.
  4. Edit every slide, then export to PowerPoint or PDF and check it opens cleanly.
  5. Only pay if you'll use it most months, and decide within 3 days of subscribing if you might want a refund.
