ChatGPT prompts for electricians: 10 to copy (UK)

These prompts cover the messages electricians write most: explaining an EICR to a landlord, quoting a consumer unit change, following up an EV charger quote. Fill in the [brackets], paste into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, and check the draft before you send it. AI tools can get technical details and regulations wrong, so you stay responsible for every code, date and price in the message. Rules below were checked on GOV.UK on 15 October 2026.

For general trade messages (review requests, payment reminders, complaint replies), see ChatGPT prompts for tradespeople.

Landlords and EICRs

In England, landlords in the private rented sector, and since 2025 the social rented sector, must have the electrical installation inspected and tested at least every 5 years and give tenants a copy of the report within 28 days. Where the report says remedial or further investigative work is needed, it must be done within 28 days or any shorter period the report specifies (GOV.UK guidance).

1. Explain an EICR result to a landlord

I'm an electrician. Write a plain-English email to landlord [name] explaining the EICR for [property area]. The result is [satisfactory/unsatisfactory]. Observations: [list each with its code: C1, C2, C3 or FI]. Explain what each code means in one line (C1 danger present, C2 potentially dangerous, C3 improvement recommended, FI further investigation required without delay). Say which items need work for the report to be satisfactory, my price for that work ([£amount]), and that the work must be done within 28 days or sooner if the report says so. Calm, factual, no scare tactics. British spelling, under 220 words.

2. Remind landlords their EICR is due

Write a short email to landlord customers whose EICR from [year] is due for renewal by [date]. Remind them that inspections are needed at least every 5 years, offer dates in [month], and give my price of [£amount] for a property up to [number] circuits. No pressure, British spelling, under 120 words.

3. Reply to a landlord asking if C3s must be fixed

A landlord asks whether they have to fix the C3 items on their EICR. Write a polite reply explaining that C3 means improvement recommended and doesn't on its own make the report unsatisfactory, then explain in one sentence why I'd still suggest [item] and what it would cost ([£amount]). British spelling, under 120 words.

Quotes

4. Consumer unit replacement quote

Write the description section of a quote for replacing a consumer unit at [address area]. Include: [new unit type and protection], [number] circuits, testing, the certificates I'll provide ([list]), notifying the work under [my scheme name], and expected time off power ([hours]). Add a line that hidden faults found during testing will be quoted separately before any extra work. Plain English for a homeowner, British spelling.

5. Follow up an EV charger quote

Write a short text to [customer name] following up my quote of [£amount] for a home EV charger installation sent on [date]. Mention what's included ([charger model], [cable run], [earthing arrangement]) and that I can do a free survey visit if they want to check anything. Under 300 characters, British spelling, no false deadlines.

For grants, rules and pricing, see EV charger installation for electricians.

6. Explain a fault-finding charge

A customer has questioned my bill of [£amount] for fault-finding on [fault] that took [hours]. Write a polite reply explaining that fault-finding is charged by the hour because it can't be priced in advance, what I tested ([list]), what I found ([cause]) and what the fix costs ([£amount]). Not defensive, British spelling, under 150 words.

Customers and jobs

7. Turn my notes into a job summary

Turn these rough notes into a clear job summary for the customer: [paste notes]. Include what I did, test results in plain English, anything I recommend for later with a rough price, and when the certificate will arrive. British spelling, short paragraphs, no technical terms without a short explanation.

8. Explain a delay waiting on someone else

Write a short message to [customer name] explaining that [job] is delayed because [reason: waiting for the network operator, a part on back order, the builder's first fix]. Give the new expected date ([date]) and what I'm doing in the meantime. Apologetic but not grovelling, British spelling, under 120 words.

9. Reply to a vague "how much to rewire?" enquiry

A customer asked "how much to rewire a [number]-bed house?" Write a friendly reply giving my typical range ([£low] to [£high]) and explaining the 4 or 5 things that change the price ([list: house size, floor access, plastering, kitchen and bathroom, fittings]). Offer a site visit to give a fixed price. British spelling, under 150 words.

10. Google Business Profile post for landlord work

Write a Google Business Profile post for an electrician in [town] offering EICRs for landlords. Mention the 5-year requirement for rented homes in England, that I send the report quickly so they can pass it to tenants, and my booking link [link]. Under 150 words, British spelling, no hype.
