AI bookkeeping tools for landscapers and gardeners in the UK
Landscaping and gardening income is seasonal: busy spring and summer, quieter winters, with regular maintenance clients alongside one-off build jobs. Costs include plants, aggregates, machinery hire, fuel for mowers and tipping fees for green waste. Keeping them by job and by season shows what to price higher next year.
Prices were re-checked on each provider's own page; the date is next to each one. Rules and figures from GOV.UK are linked where they're used.
Waste, tipping and machinery
If you carry customers' green waste or rubble in England, you need to register as a waste carrier; it costs £191.02 unless you only carry waste you produce yourself (GOV.UK). Record the registration, tip fees and machinery hire as business costs against each job.
Maintenance rounds and build jobs
Set up repeat invoices for regular maintenance clients and keep build jobs separate. If you're VAT-registered, landscaping that's part of construction work can fall under the domestic reverse charge when supplied to another VAT and CIS-registered business (GOV.UK).
Seasonal turnover and Making Tax Digital
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax uses yearly turnover, not the busy months: over £50,000 in 2024 to 2025 means you started on 6 April 2026 (GOV.UK). Zoho Books has a free plan for very small businesses (checked 15 October 2026); check its limits.

Questions
Do I need a waste carrier licence to take away garden waste?
In England, yes if you carry waste other than your own; GOV.UK says registration costs £191.02 for that.
How do I handle quiet winter months?
Making Tax Digital uses yearly turnover, so seasonal dips don't change whether you're in. Put money aside in summer for the tax bill.
Are these prices in pounds?
Not all. Where a provider only publishes US dollar prices we show dollars, so check the price in pounds at checkout.
